Review 8/19/2011
We recently used Superior Moving Systems for our move from San Diego, CA to Portland, Oregon. Over the phone, the representative, Sam, exhibited excellent customer service skills and represented the company as one of honesty and integrity. Although they were not the cheapest company by far, I decided to go with Superior, as I prefer to support smaller companies, they had more flexibility with dates, and I appreciated the great customer service. The day of the move was disastrous! When the movers arrived, the foreman, Steve, immediately informed us that our price would be double our quoted price based on our furniture alone. This was extremely surprising, as I had given the best estimate to my abilities and I had requested an in-home estimate, but was told that this was unnecessary. We were well aware that it was an estimate and that there was a good chance that the price would increase, but double does not seem within reason; moreover, the foreman indicated that 95% of the time, the price increases, and he seemed to find this pattern humorous and insignificant. In addition, he became extremely passive aggressive and reminded us that he could leave if we were unhappy. Unfortunately, time was limited, so we had no choice; we had specific dates that we had to be out of our old apartment and into our new one. Throughout the day, if we questioned him in anyway, he reminded us that he could unpack what had been done, charge us for the labor, and leave. We paid for the full service package, for which I was told that everything would be packed, labeled, and color-coded. When I asked the movers about the color coding, they laughed; there was no such thing. They only had one color of stickers, and that was used for inventory purposes, which by the way, upon drop off, these stickers were irrelevant and useless. Prior to the move, we were told that furniture would be disassembled or items could stay inside of drawers, whichever conserved space more. However, on moving day, they told us that they were not supposed to leave items in the drawers and that they would not take apart our book cases because they felt that their quality wasn't high enough. They did allow us to leave items in the drawers, but they acted like this was a favor, and when the items arrived, they had been rolled and put upside down so many times that the drawers were a mess. In addition, some of our furniture and belongings were damaged, including a sentimental painting. On the day of the move, Sam did negotiate the rate because the price had gone up so much, and assured us that he would speak with his manager and take care of us. However, since the move, it has been one big game of phone tag, and suddenly no one is available to help us. Finally, after over a month, the manager finally called us. Saying that he was lacking in business etiquette and courtesy is an understatement, not to mention he was extremely rude. He claimed that he was unaware of the situation and exhibited an attitude and actually said that as far as he was concerned, the service had been done and we had paid, so he did not see what the problem was. Although, we do have our property, the issue has yet to be resolved a month and a half later. I will admit that most of the movers were very pleasant; it's just too bad that the supervisors and management are not.
