Judy's teaching produces wonderful results. I began with the determination to work to improve the behavior of my 6- and 7-year-old dogs. Both dogs have shown great improvement in just a few months; I could not imagine their learning any faster or more easily at any age. But I would never have believed that it would be so much more fun than work. I look forward to every class; I view dog training as an enjoyable new hobby.
Several other trainers we had tried, in both group and private sessions, couldn't understand our dogs or what we needed. One trainer thought our older dog was willful and disobedient and needed a heavy hand; another trainer, though generally against drugs, believed it was an extreme situation warranting heavy Meds. Judy, however, understood that this dog just became incredibly nervous and hyper when she was away from home—whimpering and shaking. With some private lessons and gentle treatment, there was a remarkable transformation in less than 2 months from an agoraphobic wreck to a dog that can enjoy going out and exploring new places. This dog and I have just completed a wonderful group class of "Musical Manners"; while having great fun spinning and twirling, we have worked on a number of basic obedience exercises. I am delighted that our dog--who is affectionate, funny, and playful at home--can now act the same way when she is out and about.
Our second dog is of a very different temperament. She's independent, serious, and very athletic. In private lessons, Judy helped us address some specific problems. This dog also needed more activity and new challenges; she got both in agility class. We had a good relationship before, but our interaction is now so much richer and more enjoyable.
One of Judy's great strengths is her ability to understand the different personalities and needs of different dogs—and humans. And she is an extremely talented teacher, breaking down each new thing into small achievable steps, clearly explained and demonstrated—so that progress and satisfaction for both dog and human are inevitable. Judy's always positive approach makes training both successful and pleasant; my dogs are as excited and happy when I say let's do some "training" as when I say let's go for a "walk." Both dogs—and I—thoroughly enjoy Judy's classes.
