Review 6/25/2008
We are also victims of this sham of a company! When my husband accepted a new job here is SoCal, we needed to find a moving company to get our things from WA to our new home. We had approximately 3 - 4 weeks to find a mover and get everything done. As we were living in a small, rural community, it was not easy to find someone to do a visual estimate, but a gentleman from a well known company did come and evaluate our potential move. In retrospect, although their quote was quite a bit higher than TransAmerica, we should have gone with them! The estimated weight of our belongings was 4300 lbs, which seemed reasonable as we had moved only 19 months prior with a total weight of 3980 lbs and had not accumulated that much stuff in the interim. We used this estimate to get quotes from various companies and TransAmerica was the lowest at $1976 plus supplies and 3% credit card processing fee. When I asked them why their quote was so much lower I was told that they had a scheduled move to WA shortly before our moving date and instead of returning to CA with an empty truck, they could give us a discounted rate. They also said that they would have our goods delivered withing 3 - 4 days after pickup which was another reason we decided to go with them as the others said 6 - 12 days. This was the only thing where they delivered on their promises. The two movers showed up on time May 30, packed our things well and were very courteous. We have no complaints with them at least for the pick up end of things. When we booked we paid a $250.00 deposit by CC, then another $1000 at the time of pick up. This was collected after all the packing was completed. The truck showed up in California on time on June 2 and the fellow that did all the paper work told us that the weight of our goods was over the estimate of 4300 lbs and was actually 9580 lbs. We were shocked to say the very least, but they had all our worldly goods in their possession. He immediately got on his cell and called the office to have Shoorin (there she is again, just like in all the previous complaints!) run our card through before they would unload a thing. His partner just hung around outside waiting for the OK. There was a problem with the first card - not surprising considering the high amount they were trying to put on it so he asked for another. We had no choice if we wanted to see our things. Add to that the fact that we were exhausted after packing up the house in 3 weeks then both driving over 1100 miles to get to our new home. Finally, the 2nd card went through, although Shoorin wasn't sure if the charge actually went through on both cards. Her supervisor was the only one who could check on that and he was on the road! Anyway, they finally started to unload. Don't know why I bothered to write the room designations on the boxes as they just dumped everything in one room and we had to shuttle them around. At least everything turned up and seems to be OK so far. When we finally came to our senses, we phoned the company about a week later to lodge a complaint about the charge and the holding hostage of our things. My husband spoke to Joy ( another name that keeps cropping up on this site) and she promised someone would get back to us the following week as she didn't have the contract at her disposal. Suffice to say that it has been 2 weeks now and we have not heard a thing from then. We have complained directly to the company through their website. filed a complaint with the FMCSA and are now going to try every avenue available. We are going to file for arbitration today and also look into taking them to small claims court. I was also not surprised to find out that their positive rating with the BBB has recently been revoked. Do yourself a favor - avoid this company.
