Review 10/28/2010
I tried to do a loan modification on my own and then tried an attorney after over 18 months both times and getting declined the second time with the attorney I was very careful checking out another company to handle my loan modification. I talked to Steve for over two months and asked him many questions because after being declined already I was not sure I was qualified or not. He assured me that they would look at everything and that there were new programs out to help homeowners. We went to their office in Irvine and met with them. We were told that we qualified for a modification after they looked at our income and the mortgage amount. We were then told wink wink to "stop making our mortgage payments and we would get the banks attention". We were then told that we had too much credit card debit and should stop paying on the two cards that we had. I checked the BBB before meeting with them and did not expect an A+ rating and found some complaints. When I asked Steve about them He described in detail how much effort The Mortgage Law Center provided for every client as described in the cements from TMLC on every complaint. I did not want to deal with the bank and was told over and over by Steve that TMLC would handle everything. We signed the contract and had some questions about the Attorney Services Contract scope of services paragraph 1. Assemblage of documents 2. Preparation of budget, legal analysis and materials and 3. Submission to lender. (What ever thay say that is all they are going to do.) I did not want to deal with the lender in how will TMLC deal with the bank? Paragraph 3 Client responsibilities was explained that some banks will not deal with them and may request updated information from me but that they would work hard negotiating modification terms, a refinance if the bank offered that and then had another doc to sign that authorized them to work with the bank. We were comforted with all the answers That Steve gave us and that our modification was in good hands, but understood that there was no guarantee that the bank would approve a loan modification. On Friday that week I was called and told that we had a strong case for a modification, the package was ready to be sent to the bank and our credit card would be charged at this time. The next week I received a package from TMLC a binder as thick as a phone book inside the very back was a letter. The last paragraph in short that a loan modification is time consuming and difficult process and that it was now up to me to do all the hard work. When I got in contact with Steve over a week later he told me that it took time and sent me an e-mail telling me to wait 30 days and the bank would want updated docs. And he would help until it was resolved. I wanted something in writing and was told to look at paragraph 8 second sentence. No discussions, comments or statements made on or before the effictive date will be binding on the parties. There was also another contract attached that regular cost was $500.00 per month but for me it was only $300.00. I just paid them $2500.00 to fax 42 pages to the bank and a binder. When I asked about what was described over the phone and in the office I was told to look at paragraph 8 second sentence. (No discussions, comments or statements made on or before the effictive date will be binding on the parties). The bank wanted correct information sent to them and never mentioned TMLC. Once the bank received "all the pages to my bank statements" and pay stubs the loan modification was declined in record time 38 days from the time we met in their office. They talk a good game but can't walk the walk. Would never recommend them. I am glad I found out as soon as I did and did not qualify for the debt settlement plan or I would have lost much much more. Read the complaints on the BBB for the truth about them.
