I think it is appalling that Experian, a company that controls OUR credit information, is involved with this scam! Generally I check a business out to see if it is legitimate but I got taken this time. I read the "fine print" and knew it was a 7 day FREE trial but I had to cancel before that or I would be charged a monthly fee of $29.95. Well, suffice it to say I couldn't reach anyone at this company for three days PAST my 7 day limit. Then, when I finally did reach someone and told them I wanted to cancel I was given a 5 minute sales pitch and a "deal" for a membership at $12.95. I told them I didn't want to hear the sales pitch, I wanted my membership cancelled and I did not want to be charged for something I was not using. True to form, the sales witch kept trying to "sell" me on the membership until I practically screamed at her--"I want the membership cancelled". So, she went off line and came back on telling me the membership had been cancelled. When I proceeded to ask if that meant I was not going to be charged she told me "no" I would still be charged for one month's membership. I could have gone around and around with that scumsucker but I simply told her I was filing a report with the BBB and my state's attorney general. I have also contacted my credit union and put a block on any charges from them. Nothing has gone through yet but the block is there. I'm not naive to think anything was free but when you try to follow the specifications and cancel there is no answer or the phone rings and rings and rings. Absolutely something needs to be done about this company--I can't believe they are still being allowed to rip people off AND have access to your social security numbers!!! It is outrageous that California would allow this to continue!

We need to put a stop to this! I too have been duped into a nonrefundable freecreditreport.com transaction. I signed up for the free credit report and entered my credit card info just like I was told to. There was a $14.95 payment due and it said I had 9 days to cancel for a full refund. I did one for my wife as well.
After completing the process and obtaining my info, I logged out and checked my bank account. They had charged me $24.95 for each report! I called immediately and recieved their after hours message telling me to call back during normal business hours.
I called back today and spoke with a rep who said I signed up for the bonus package and that is why it was more. I asked if that was refundable and she said no. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was put in touch with Jeremiah Rep#25705. He stated the same thing and said that I didn't have to sign up for the bonus membership. It was a choice I made.
After a lengthy conversation and no reconciliation I cancelled my membership.
This is what he said:
-After agreeing to the $14.95 100% refundable amount you are promted to either agree or disagree to a "bonus" membership. I apparently agreed with this (I do not recall doing this) -Because the 3 credit reports are handled as a bundle order, none can be reimbursed.
I also told him that even if I did agree to this extra charge, I should be promted to reconfirm my request. (this is done in any micro payment system like paypal or ebay or amazon or any online purchase!)
He said that there was nothing he could do at this point.
After all this I asked if he had a superior I could speak to. He said he was the only one there and that he would give me a fax# to a complaint line.
I will never do business with this company again and will be sure and tell everyone I know the same.
BBB get this thing done already!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO NOT USE FREECREDITREPORT.COM!!! After viewing my husbands credit reports we called to cancel the membership and was told I would incur absolutely no fees. Well, how about they bill me $24.95 which is some ridiculous, non-refundable fee! When I call to question it, the rep, Jamir, tells me it's not refundable. I request to speak w/supervisor and he says I cannot speak w/supervisor and if I want I can take them to court which they will be happy to meet me there and I can even file a complaint w/the BBB! This means they get calls like mine ALL THE TIME! Finally, he stopped talking to me, he kept typing, I kept asking for a supervisor and he just wouldn't respond. I had to disconnect the call. All I could do at this point and file the complaint w/my bank and hopefully I can get reimbursed that way. AGAIN, DO NOT USE FREECREDITREPORT.COM!!!

I found that this company had been billing me for their services in which I never used. As a matter of fact a verification number was to be mailed and I never received it. Upon calling I was told that they could verify that I had not used this service and a full refund would be given if I faxed over certain information to this consumer relations group. Per the website, this review process takes 10 days and a written finding would then be mailed to me...4 phone calls later and no information at first given with another call directly to the office in irvine, supposedly I was given a refund of $44 which I am pretty sure I have not received. I highly recommend not using this company!

Come on BBB lets stop freecreditreport from ripping off any more consumers. In their advertisement it clearly states: FREE CREDIT REPORT and SCORE! Then they want your personal credit card information for what purpose, who knows. It states that:Credit Card Information- Your credit card will not be charged during the free trial period. However, valid credit card information is required to establish your account I never stated that I wanted too join any membership, just wanted a free credit report. No where does it state that I am to pay $1.00. Free means free! At the bottom of their advertisement page there is a statement for those who want to join, but you must join first. The application does not ask for my address, just my name, social security information, and birth date, and credit card. I am angry to be living in a country where there is an organization such as BBB that is supposedly for the people. If the BBB is for the taxpaying consumers, and you guys are supposedly "on" all for the consumers rights, then show some true dedication and put a stop to freecreditreport.com.
sincerely, All for the People!

My complaint is they say the credit report is free but then to get the credit report you ust pay $1.00 for temporary membership but continue to be billed every month for $15.88 even though you are not aware you are being billed. as a billed customer I complained that I was not aware that they agreed to a membership program and as such believed the charges were not authorized. When I called the company initially responded they would cancel but not provide a refund. After threatening they said the could provide 2 months but not the nine months on my credit card bill. The credit card is paid automatically and I am paperless and do not look closely at the bill until i paid it up and saw a continual payment of $15,88 every month. The company explained that the customer agreed to their terms of service when they signed up. I never signed up or knew I was going to pay more than the first $1.00. The practice to signing me up without my knowledge is fraud any way you want to look at it.

MISLEADING COMPANY, NEVER HAVE RECORDS OF YOU CALLING AND CANCELLING YOUR MEMBERSHIP WITH THEM. THEY ARE MISLEADING, THE BBB NEED TO LOOK INTO THEM MORE AND READ SOME COMSUMERS REVIEWS OF THIS COMPANY. PLEASE BBB DO SOMETHING.
I was ripoff by this company so many times. They always claim to have no records of calls made to them. Making unauthorized charges on my credit card well after it was cancelled. I was rip off out of 29.90 by them on the 30th of October which was yesterday. Their comsumers repres. are very unprofessional and so is their supervisers. They need to be look into, I see I am not the only only that have problems with this company yet they are still in business ripping people off. They claim to offer free credit check for up to 7days, but you have to call and cancelled the membership before that 7days is up. Its crazy how you can never get them when you want to cancel, they always put you on hold, phone being hungup on you or just plain they dont have any records of you calling them to cancelled. Someone please do something about this company, they are ripping thousands and thousands of people off. Times are way too hard to be losing money, as a single mom, 29.90 goes a long way. They refused to refund my money back to by card. I NEED HELP.......

I am with thousands of others here. I share their concern and experience. FreeCreditReport.com is not free. they should not be allowed by law, to mislead and lie to the public under the guise of free. It has a price. That is not free. I was directed to the Large Type, not the fine print. I have studied design and arts for years. Its crap like this that turned me away from commercial arts, twisted tactics. I called to cancel and get a refund, was put on hold, hung up on. Called the bank, who had already heard this story numerous times before. Went to BBB who have over 7,000 complaints on this company. They have been investigated by the FCC. This is getting ridiculous. Someone, somewhere, please either shut them down, or make them change their dirty practices. No wonder we have these vigilante groups like the E.L.F. who resort to explosives and stuff. BBB. Do your thing. End this shadiness.

I wrote a complaint about this company. They agreed to give me back the over charges. The problem with this company it was not able to keep the companies that I wanted to be checked listed separate. They kept putting two different companies on one report and I have told them several times but they could not get it corrected.
I would not recommend them to anyone. I told others abaout what happen and they also had some of the same things happen to them.

I wanted to write to let everyone know that freecreditreport.com is a fraud. They are NOT free at all. When I went online to check my credit report they asked for my credit card number saying that it was just procedural and that they would not charge me. Well, little did i know that i had to read the fine print which of course you don't think you have to do with a name like FREEcreditreport.com. They charged me after a few days had passed since checking the report. On top of that, they will NOT give you a refund, not only that i have heard that even when you do call and cancel the membership they still charge you monthly. Be very careful when looking up your credit report. If you need to check your credit report go to annualcreditreport.com it is absolutely free.

It appears from looking at the stats on this company that I'm one of more than well over 6,000 others who have been duped and have taken the time to complain about this company's shady business practices. My story is the same as it is for many: I requested what I thought was a "free" credit report from one of the three credit company bureaus via FreeCreditReport.com. Stupidly I gave them my credit card information, which they made it sound like was a formality and even stated that I would NOT be charged to view this report. Of course in small print somewhere that I never saw they did find a way to charge me if I didn't cancel my membership--a membership I did not knowingly agree to-within 9 days. They sent that information to me via an email, which I did not read as I thought it was a promotion and skipped it. A few weeks later I got a charge in August for $14.95 on my credit card from FreeCreditReport. I called the company to complain and they informed me that I would be refunded and my membership would be cancelled. Skip to the next month's credit card statement and there is a refund for $14.95 along with a new charge of $14.95 from FreeCreditReport. The refund was processed on 9/9, long after I called them but of course I have no proof. The new charge was billed on 9/5. Called FreeCreditReport.com to complain and they informed me that the refund was for September, not August. Bull. Called my credit card company to complain and they said that unless i had proof that I can cancelled before 9/5, they could not go after this company.
So the scam is this: They try to squeeze $14.95 out of as many suckers as they can and it appears they get away with it often. I truly hope that California's attorney general goes after this business some time. Or perhaps someone will file a class-action suit against this company and we can all get our money back!

Misleading information about a free introductory offer. When I discovered charges on my credit card, I quickly called and was too late to reverse the chargs. I called as soon as I reveiwed my VISA statement. The company didn'd seem to care when I theatened a complaint. This company takes advantage of people. ( I, too, am at fault---"There's no free lunch out there." )

Our first clue that something was amiss was when we began getting monthly notices to our personal email account announcing that our monthly Free Credit Report was available. I thought my husband had signed up because I never use our personal email address when doing business on the internet. He had not. Then I found a $14.95 charge on our Sept 2009 Discover card statement. When I checked back on prior statements, I saw that we had been receiving the charge for 7 months! First I called FreeCreditReport and got absolutely nowhere. I wrote a letter to Discover Card stating we were disputing the charges AND I wrote a letter to Free Credit Report stating we did Not sign up for these services and we wanted a refund for $14.95 X 8 months which was $119.60. Within 2 weeks we received notice from Discover Card stating the full amount had been refunded.

This company is a scam. Hopefully there will eventually be legislation that prevents any company from charging you for your free annual credit reports so that service will be completely separated from the paid service of online credit surveillance. I paid for all 3 credit reports over a year ago and canceled my subscription with no further charges and no problems. One year later, they began auto-debiting my account again. When I called and canceled this service again they said that I had restarted the service again even though I didn't and they didn't even have my current email on file anymore to send me a cancellation confirmation. They also refused to erase my credit card info to prevent any further charges from them in the future! I also did not receive a refund but am disputing the charges with my bank and the BBB currently. Even though I am only "out" 30.00 it is the principle that this agency is rated as trustworthy and they are supposed to be helping consumers not scamming consumers.

this is a scam, there is no free credit report and you won't find this out untill you have allready wasted 10 minutes of your time filling out the app, they should have asked for the credit card info first, or change the name of the company as the present name IS misleading

Most of you know by now that www.freecreditreport.com is not free. They say free because each person by law is allowed to have their free credit report viewed online, or mailed to them, from each bureau per year. Freecreditreport.com is just a tool used to look at your credit score, report, and all three bureaus (if you so desire). It is not the only option out there to look at your credit reports, so don't be fooled. It also takes a membership fee of anywhere from $7.99, 15.99, 24.99, or 45.99 to gain access the files you are requesting. My complaint is not with the fees. I had agreed to pay the "one time fee" of $24.99 to view all three of my reports through this website. And I got to view them. For a week. After which they attempted to bill me another $15.00. They called it the Experian membership fee. I spoke to many of their customer service reps, and tried to get them to explain to me why on earth I would want a membership to see my Experian report when I was already paying for a membership which included Experian, Equifax, and Transunion. Seems a little redundant doesnt it? TO charge me twice a month for basically part of the same services? Well luckily for me my card was declined when they had attempted to charge that additional fifteen dollars (so yes fifteen is a lot of money for me). As soon as my card was declined, they put a block on my existing membership that was $25 for thirty days. Just after one week, I had a block on my report, that should have been viewable for thirty days, unless I agreed to pay another fee. I spoke with FIVE REPS and none of them seemed to understand that they were making a mistake. They said "this is easily fixable if you provide me with a working creditcard number". I told them to go to hell, because they would only just charge me more money if I gave them that number. Not fix my problem. They refused to help me in any way, did not fix my problem, and I was forced to cancel my membership due to their inability to see they were making a mistake with my account. I demanded a full refund from them, however, I don't know if I will receive it. I would rather just have what I initially wanted... my membership back, with the payment of what I had agreed upon. Not two monthly payments. If only they could get their heads out of their asses for two minutes, and listen to what I had to say on the phone, instead of reading their script, and wondering what rebuttal to use after each question I asked.. maybe they would have a happy ex-customer here making a post, instead of one who feels lied to. Credit Reporting Agencies should really try to be honest and helpful with their clients... since most of their clients have to deal with shady, dishonest, miserable creditors and collection agencies on a daily basis anyway. Why does freecreditreport.com think people want to use their service anyway? Yes, I'm really sure it's to PAY MORE MONEY to be lied to some more and be taken advantage of and have more fine print thrown at them. I'm really sure that's what the clients are wanting.
Ugh!

The name freecreditreport.com is misleading and deceptive. It is not free. In the past, I paid for the credit report (the one with all three agencies) without the monthly charge, but had to navigate through the site to get to that option. This last time, I did not log in to my existing account, so after I gave them my information again, they did not notify me that the account was already created, I was charged the 14.95 monthly fee as if I was renewing the monthly service. I'm sure that's all in the fine print, but the website should have indicated that since the account already existed, I would be reinstated in the monthly program and billed immediately in addition to the credit report.
I called to explain this to them, and they would not give me a refund. It was borderline comedy listening them try to explain the legitimacy of the site, then they would get silent when questioned on the clarity. They had no answer as to why it would not indicate my account was existing, and prompt me with the option of purchasing just the reports and not the membership, like I have in the past. That right there shows it's deliberately confusing. $14.95 is not a lot of money to me, but it is to a lot of people, so it's the principal that makes me upset.
The monthly service may be helpful to some people, but I only have two credit cards (both with zero balance)that I use, two bank loans in good standing, and my score is in the 800 range. I prefer to get my credit report at my own discretion , and don't feel the need to pay $15 a month for the service. I have many successful clients and colleges, and none of them pay for such a service either.

THIS COMPANY IS STEALING FROM ME!!! I was well-aware of the fine print when I pulled up my "free" credit report and called immediately to remove myself from the monthly program. I did the same for my husband. Well here it is the following month and lo and behold - a monthly membership fee FOR BOTH! Do these people really think I don't check my credit card statement? Not only that but when I tried to cancel, the barely-intelligible individual on the line spoke in tongues about how important it was that I keep my membership. DO NOT USE THIS WEBSITE!!!!! THIS IS WHITE-COLLAR CRIME!!!

It astounds me at how many of the people on here not only miss the information on the landing page that explains what you are doing, but also the pop up when you put your credit card in that's say 'your credit card will not be billed DURING THE TRIAL PERIOD.' It also astounds me at how many people simply ignore the terms and conditions they obviously agreed to after putting in there credit card number! Honestly, the information is there for you to read, its no ones fault but your own that you chose not to. So how is it a scam when YOU did not read what YOU were doing?? I love my membership. I had my car stolen with my wallet in it. I signed up for child secure and recently had an alert on my minor daughter. Scary, and without the membership it could have devastated her credit history before it even legally began. Great membership!
