Review 3/30/2011
I called Dish network today to request that an unauthorized satellite dish installed by my neighbor on my property be removed. Dish told me that generally the subscriber, who doesn't live next door to me anymore, is responsible for its removal because normally he would be the one asked to provide written authority from the owner of the property to allow for the dish to be installed. HOWEVER, the DISH's rep. said that because the former neighbor (who i have never had any affiliation with) was not authorized by the owner of the fence where the dish was installed, the installer who installed the dish --Coast Satellite TV of Atascadero-- is.

I called Coast Satellite Dish for more information. "Dave" confirmed the company he works for did install the unit on my fence and claims that the neighbor had authorization for them to do the work. Also, Dave said his contract with the neighbor has a 60 day warranty, after that they are not responsible. I informed Dave that the neighbor wasn’t the property owner of the fence where his company installed the dish. I told Dave that because the neighbor never had my permission to install his satellite dish on my property, the warranty he had with the neighbor does not hold water and Coast Satellite is still liable for the dish to be removed as it was their error. I even pointed out that the same contract Dave referred to also states that Coast Satellite TV must have written permission from the legal property owner in order for any dish to be installed. Dave said it would be $95.00+ for them to come out and take a look at the problem. He told me that if I was not happy with his resolution to remove it myself. I told him, I don't know how, it’s not my dish, and I am not willing to accept responsibility if I were to get injured during its removal or if the unit were to be damaged. He told me to call back when the owner "Ryan Evans" returns from vacation next week. He told me i could complain all i want, but they would not honor their customer service commitment nor their legal obligation. I asked him for the company's contractors license number, but he had no idea if they had one or where it would be. In fact, he refused to give me their contractors license number, bond number, or liability insurance provider or any other information about their company. He then asked me for my personal information (after i just got done telling him where the service address was, who i was, and after he looked up the former neighbor's account and confirmed the last name. I told him I will not give out my information again until he gives me their business licensing information or a working website address (which reported an error and could not load after I found it on Google.com). Instead, he hung up on me.

I believe this company is operating without the legally required licensing, insurance, bond, professionalism, and is responsible to remove the dish and repair any damage done to my property. I require the dish that was installed without authorization to be removed at the cost of Coast Satellite TV ASAP. I have also “certified mail” a detailed letter to the business address demanding removal. If I don’t receive a response from the business by 4/7/11, I will go to the California state licensing board and report their refusal to correct the damage they have caused.
