Double Water Meter Readings....
I live in Beaverton OR and am being ripped-off. When I moved into the complex my water bill usage was about 25 units of water a month.
I started keeping track when my bill had nearly doubled. A new meter was installed and NWP continued to use the old meter reading and never acknowledged a new meter was installed. Finally, I have a new bill with a "0" reading and am wondering if they will now bill correctly.
I honestly do NOT believe NWP is reading the meters. I have been told that for a 2 bedroom 40 units is usual. Maybe with 4 people but with a retired couple it is no more than 25 units. I now check my meter in the apt every night and log the amt of usage and for 2 months have not passed 25 units. There is also a meter on the outside of the bldg that matches, so maintenance tells me.
If apt complexes are going to use NWP, I think there should be some type of monitoring being done on these meters to make sure NWP is not ripping the consumers off.
Many people in these type of complexes come and go and never realize that their meters are wrong. If you move into the complex and get a high number the 1st month, you would not be the wiser. Plus many people only stay 1 year and move. It is only someone who has been here a long time that could keep track of the unscrupulous practices. At first, I thought it was just a meter reader (human) error but now I think the whole thing is a corporate ploy to cheat consumers out of more money.
