Review 10/25/2009
This was a REALLY fun experience; I live in San Diego and drove up to OC to go to the "Auction" at Public Motors OC after having bid on a car on-line (EBay)and receiving no response from PMOC other than an e-mail telling me that it was available and to "come on up" to make the deal. After arriving, I was informed that the car I had bid on had been sold yesterday after PMOC sent me the e-mail. (Stupid clue #1)

30 minutes later, while looking at some other overpriced cars, I got an e-mail notification on my phone stating that the car was still available and to come on up to make the deal. (Stupid clue #2)

The sales-person assured me that the car had been sold and invited me to make a "silent bid" on another car (this is their version of "auction" and is nothing different from walking into any car lot and making an offer against their absurdly marked up price. At no time do you get to see a competitors bid - but they will tell you that you were outbid and give you an opportunity to raise your bid to the level that they want for the car. (Stupid clue #3)

Having gone thru all of this (and still being a bit stupid) I still bid on a car and went thru the process of negotiating via the "silent auction" process. When the sales manager was writing up the deal on the computer, he was verbally stating what he was entering . . . surprise, surprise - he was entering information for a car other than the one we bid on. When I called it to his attention and he and the sales-person told me that I was mistaken and in fact had put in a bid on the car they were entering. They the told me that if I wanted "the other" car, it would be a "few thousand more". BYE BYE time, we thanked them for their time and left.

Beware, everything about this operation is a scam from the use to the term Auction, to listing cars for sale that don't exist to changing vehicles from the one you bid on to a car that they want to move.

Keep your money, find an honest private party, work a deal you're both happy with and avoid these guys at all costs.
