Review 12/15/2007
For the year that my husband and I are stationed in Iraq, I bought VPI insurance for our three dogs. At no time was I warned by the sales representative that the insurance would not cover major surgeries during that first (& only) year. Six months into our deployment, we found out that the three dogs were being mistreated at the facility where we left them, and one of them had mysteriously torn his ACL. I had them all transported to another facility, and then the injured dog taken to a reputable vet to inspect his injury. He needed TPLO surgery, which I agreed to immediately, especially since the dog’s surgery was covered (or so I thought). At the same time, our GSD puppy was diagnosed with a hereditary disease (Wobbler’s). Pa-shew, I thought! Boy, am I glad I got that insurance. I knew that treatment for the Wobbler’s would not be covered, but I certainly thought that the testing to determine the disease would be covered. No – the testing (x-rays, etc) to even DETERMINE if the dog had the disease was NOT covered. And the TPLO surgery was not covered because the “accident” occurred within the first year of coverage; again, since the sales representative KNEW that I was just getting this insurance for a year, you would have thought that specific rule would have been mentioned. No, it was not. So now I am stuck with over $3,000 of vet bills that I thought would be covered. SHOPPERS, BEWARE! THIS INSURANCE IS NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY.
